We are taking our responsibilities to respond to Coronavirus - COVID 19 really seriously. Looking after our candidates and clients is our number one priority, which is why we are staying close to the advice from Government to make sure we are doing the right things.

As a number of individuals are returning to work, searching for a new job amid such chaos can feel confusing and challenging. However we are making every effort to make it as unproblematic and help limit the spread of the virus.

Our COVID Questionnaire

We have put in place a COVID 19 Health Questionnaire to ensure everyone we speak to are COVID free and staying safe. Every time we speak to candidates or clients we will check again that all the answers given previously are still the same, to ensure we are staying alert.

Some of the questions we ask candidates:

  • Have you or your partner or any member of your household had COVID?
  • Have you or your partner or any member of your household had any of the following symptoms in the last 2 weeks:
    1. Fever (feeling hot or a temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius)
    2. Persistent cough
    3. Loss of the sense of smell
    4. Loss of the sense of taste
    5. Sore throat

Some of the questions we ask clients:

  • Do you have staff Covid 19 health checks/ reporting / monitoring in place?
  • Are staff members required to wear PPE?
  • What are your procedures for interviewing / conducting trials?

Interviews and Trials via Video Call

Probably the biggest change to how we work has been the adoption of video calling. Not only has this method been promoted from a "last resort" to a "standard" way of working, but we have seen clients utilise the technology to continue the recruitment process. The lockdown has forced us into using video calls more regularly but the tech has proved it's worth and I believe it will become a staple in speeding up and easing the difficulties of arranging meetings and interviews for long into the future.

Naturally, we have found that the past few months have been an incredibly stressful time for many candidates and clients. We have had countless conversations with people who have been displaced due to the crisis. Although the future is uncertain and will no doubt look very different as we progress through 2020/2021, it will be business as usual here at First Contact Chefs and we will continue to support clients and candidates through the changing market and beyond.
